Overview

This position interacts with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals through our EGYM training system. It also promotes individual and community health and wellbeing through direct engagement by assisting members with proper equipment usage, educating members on other fitness opportunities, and answering member questions about the YMCA.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive environment that allows for personal development, creativity, and community.
  • Train and orient members on the EGYM training system and support them in achieving their health and wellness goals.
  • Ability to have positive, energetic and informative interactions with participants
  • Follows all policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Serves as a role model to members and lives the vision and values of the YMCA movement.
  • Create a mission-based environment which enables everyone to be engaged in the YMCA movement.
  • Ensure all appointments follow the EGYM 1 Training Certification guidelines and are implemented in a safe, inclusive, and fun manner.
  • Utilize biometric data and gamification techniques to motivate and engage members in achieving success.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with EGYM participants to monitor progress, provide support, and ensure optimal utilization of the facility and equipment.
  • Utilizes tools and information for the purpose of increasing member knowledge of healthy living as well as wellness programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, schedules, etc.).
  • Proactively provide members with information about how to maximize the value of their membership, resulting in enrollment in Y programs (personal training, challenges, fun runs, etc.) that help them achieve the two Case Measures for adults.
  • Conduct one on one appointments and/or provide member support during peak hours of operations.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of wellness and exercise industry trends.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment according to standard operating procedures.
  • Assist front desk operations as needed, supporting member services and contributing to retention efforts by fostering a welcoming and engaging environment.
  • Actively participates in department and branch staff meetings/or related training, and stays current on certifications.
  • Actively engage members to provide education, demonstration and knowledge necessary to use all modalities of exercise equipment helping them meet their health and wellness goals.
  • Monitor and ensure the safety of all participants on the wellness floor, responding to emergencies and safety related issues.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with members to create a sense of belonging and connection to others.
  • Report any equipment not functioning through the Health and Wellness Director.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Experience in Health & Wellness, Health & Wellness or Personal Trainer preferred.
  • Experience in related fields including: Current Personal Training Certification, the Y’s Foundations of Strength and Conditioning and/or BS in Exercise Science.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Some sales experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to engage others in conversation to make all people feel welcome.
  • Must have good interpersonal communication skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds of the community.
  • Must be observant, safety conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
  • Meet all training requirements for the position in the specified timeframe.
  • Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, and make quick decisions under stress.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid upon hire - must keep up to date

Posted Salary Range

USD $14.81 - USD $16.31 /Hr.
