Overview

The YMCA of Pueblo is looking for Summer Staff for our resident camp at Camp Jackson. Do you have a passion for working with children? Do you love the outdoors? Are you an outgoing individual who enjoys having fun? Join our team of dedicated professionals in the beautiful San Isabel National Forest for an experience of a lifetime this summer. Camp Jackson, a branch of the YMCA of Pueblo, is a residential camp located in Rye, CO.

Camp Jackson is looking for an Equestrian Counselor who will enthusiastically represent the YMCA by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job through the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The Equestrian Counselor will assist in creating a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while managing, feeding, caring for, and preparing a group of 10-14 horses as well as create programming for our Horsemasters and Horsemasters Jr. programs. In addition, the Equestrian Counselor will live with and supervise the cabin groups participating in the horse programs. This is a seasonal position.

 

Summer Season: 05/25/2024-08/02/2024 

 

Pay Rate: $400-475/week plus Room & Board

  • Will be required to work some stay over weekends as assigned
  • These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • Red Cross or equivalent CPR/First Aid Certification required
  • Previous overnight camp experience preferred
  • High School Diploma required
  • Minimum of three months of full time or equivalent part time satisfactory and verifiable experience with middle school age children and teens. Six months is preferred.
  • Must have a sincere and genuine interest in working with youth and should relate well to all age levels and backgrounds of people.
  • Develop and facilitate lessons that teach leadership, counseling skills and camp program skills
  • Physically fit and able to hike, walk, stand, bend and lift up to 50 lbs comfortably over the course of a day
  • 1 Year previous equine experience required
  • Mentally and visually alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents
  • Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer emergency care effectively
  • 2 years previous camp experience preferred
